Rooted in opposing slavery and strengthening the Union, its ideology evolved from 19th-century abolitionism and economic modernization to 20th-century conservatism, emphasizing limited government, free markets, and individual liberty

Advocated for a society where labor was free, not enslaved

Equality and Union
Championed by Abraham Lincoln, the party sought to preserve the Union and eventually eliminate slavery through the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments
